Mom’s Tragic Accident Highlights a Hidden Danger Many People Overlook

What began as an ordinary evening turned into tragedy for a Dublin family. Ann-Marie O’Gorman, a 46-year-old mother of three,

was taking a relaxing bath when a small, everyday habit became fatal. Like many people, she brought her phone with her

— unaware that it was still plugged in. Moments later, an accident occurred that would change her family’s life forever.

Her husband, Joe O’Gorman, spoke to her by phone earlier that evening. When he returned home, he found her unresponsive,

with the phone and charger in the water. He performed CPR and called emergency services, but Ann-Marie was

later pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital. An inquest confirmed she had been electrocuted due to the plugged-in charger near water.

Heartbroken, Joe has since spoken publicly to raise awareness, warning others about the dangers of mixing electronics and water.

He explained that while many phones are water-resistant, the risk lies in using or charging them near baths or sinks.

“People should know this can happen,” he said, urging stronger safety labels and public education.

Ann-Marie’s story serves as a devastating reminder that even small devices can become deadly

near water — a call for vigilance in an age where technology is everywhere.
